Pu-Erh and aflatoxins

Apr 23, 2006 5 Replies

I understand that this topic might cause some discomfort or leave a "bad taste" among Pu-Erh lovers (like myself) but I really like to share some ideas and information here that might lead to some insight and/or clarification.

After lengthy discussions on rfdt and elsewhere on all sorts of possible species of Pu-Erh "kin", namely different strains of fungi, especially those of the Aspergillus family I´m a bit concerned as to the general possibilities of Pu-Erh teas containing aflatoxins, one of the strongest carcinogens known to man.

Any information, thoughts, actual test results highly appreciated.

You mean all those peanut butter sandwiches and government cheese didn't give me immunity?

Tea is an agricultural crop. Always boil water for tea. I just watched the Discovery channel series on China. I'd be more worried about pesticides and pollution. The country is becoming another Love Canal in the name of progress. People do care but now communist members are in pockets of corporations.

If you don't wash the leaves and peel the first layer or so.
