I couldn't post a reply directly thorough Google, but anyway here's my reply to the stovetop kettle thread...
Hi Scott, You know, that's what Le Creuset said when I called them about this, so I just now did a little experiment...I filled the kettle until the top of the water (not boiling) was just up to the very bottom of the bottom hole going to the spout (there are four holes going into the spout, in the shape of a diamond). I put the kettle on and let it come to a boil and then poured the water out. Sputtered and jumped all over. Now, the kettle keeps some of the heat even off the surface of the stove (love that cast iron, I really do), and it is still boiling in the kettle after I remove it for several second, but black tea calls for boiling water so that's what I want I presume. And also, when I filled the kettle as above, it held about 4 and a half cups. It's...I'm not sure what the model name is but it's the squat kettle, not the more up and down one I think they have? Anyway, if I wait for the water to settle down in the kettle and keep it as empty as above then yes, it works better. Not perfectly...I still have to be careful. Unfortunately it doesn't hold enough water at that point to fill my larger Bodum Assam pot (which I like to fill to about 5 cups) so...That's probably why I probably overfill it most times because I keep pouring it out and running out of hot water before I run out of steeping teapot, if you see what I mean. There's also a little sort of notch in the lid that I think is there to let off some of the steam...I just have a feeling that maybe the pot doesn't bleed off the steam fast enough because instead of having one big hole into the spout from inside the kettle they have four little ones. Just a thought. It is a bummer though because like I said I love Le Creuset for cooking and I have a lot of their things, and I was also looking for a long time for a sturdy nice teakettle and I thought I had found the perfect one.
It works fine for greens....obviously....
Oh and one last thing I forgot to mention...if I take the lid off altogether when I'm pouring the boiling water out (wrapping my hand in a towel), it still sputters. Yes that's weird. But I tried it. I really think it's a problem with the spout or something. IMHO.
