I learned today that at least one of the internet tea companies that seals it's products in the vacuum bags does it when the tea comes in, that is, they prepack all of it into various sizes even before it's ordered or anything. That's news to me, thought it might be interesting to others....I mean it makes sense of course, but I never thought of it before.

Yes, Upton's products are pre-bagged and the packed on date on the label is when it's packed to be shipped to the customer. I'm glad for it because it means that the teas aren't frequently exposed to air and light while orders are filled as they would if bagged when ordered, so remain fresher, longer.
The only negative that I can think of is if you want a size that's out, you'll have to wait for their next shipment which may be the harvest of the following year.
Well Uptons (as per Blueseas comment) but I think also Specialteas does this and I base it on the fact that on their new website they are out of some sizes of tea but not other sizes of the same tea, and the only thing I can think of to account for that (being that the sizes they are out of are not all just the biggest ones) is that they prebag their tea.
I am glad for it too, but it was different then the image I had in my mind...yes I had the image of a salesperson who, when my order came in, went to a bin with a scoop and filled the bags and then heat sealed them...yes laugh at me if you will, go ahead, laugh...::grin:: ;)
(Well that's the way they do it at my local tea shops...so that's the picture I had, lol)

My local tea shoppe gets shipments in nitrogen sealed foil bags. The tea is then resealed in vacuum bags. As I mentioned before the vacuum bags originally from the source would rupture in unpressurized airline cargo holes. All restaurant ratings are bogus because they never describe the kitchen or restrooms.
