the Beauty of Steeping in a Clear Container

One of my fondest memories from childhood was Pop brewing coffee in a glass coffee pot atop the gas burner of the stove.

Except for a fastening ring around it holding the handle on & the top and bottom of the basket, the entire thing was see through.

(I found a picture to demonstrate: )

I recall watching the 1st bubbles of steam rise up the glass pipe in the middle and fall out over the top of the basket, soon brewed coffee was dripping down into the clear, clear water below- brown and rich and beautiful. The trails of color would take a minuet to swirl before becoming diluted and time seemed to slow down for a little while.

Today I brew in a mason jar for much of the same reasons, I like to see the, in this case, tea blend from a concentrate to a tincture to a tea.

Still beautiful, some things remain.

Unless you are just set on using a mason jar... Bodum makes some very lovely clear glass teapots.

Personally, I find the bodum glass teapots unpleasing, but I find mason jars a perfect complement to the tea. Strictly personal taste. There's no accounting for it. That's what makes the world go round.

I'm totally for preparing greens in clear glass containers. Definitely, and I've said this numerous times, heh, try qing shan lv shui if you get the chance. It's quite a beautiful tea.

Well, I heat the water in a conventional tea kettle on the stove top, but I find regular tea cups too small, and I dislike refilling over and over from a decorative pot to a smallish cup.

(It's a different proposition I suppose when drinking tea contemplatively, then you might want less than a bucket's worth.)

Also the mason jar, besides being see through, holds a good mass of heated beverage, this helps retain the temp for a long time.

I'll check out the link provided, Thx.
