upton customer service + chatsford bone china pot--A+

A while back I posted that I bought an earthenware chatsford teapot and the glaze started to chip off on the spout before the end of the first week. I thought I would post an update. I purchased the pot from Upton and they offer a no-fault 30 day warranty. I wrote an email to customer service on the 26th explaining my concerns about the quality of the pot. I received a reply the next day offering the return authorization and free shipping on the next order of a chatsford bone china pot that interested me as an "upgrade" in quality. On Friday we completed the order through email and, living one state away, I received the new pot today. I'll be shipping the earthenware back on Monday for my refund on that pot. I was told to keep the old filter basket as a spare--so between that and the free shipping for the new pot, the return shipping should be a "wash." I wanted to post that I am very pleased with their service. Good customer service is to find. As a new customer (this was my second order) with Upton, I feel that I'll be a loyal customer for a long time.

The new bone china pot is a pleasure to use--it's well balanced and easier to handle than the earthenware pot. The earthenware seemed to be "spout-heavy" and I often balanced it by holding my finger under the spout while pouring. It's much better made and I recommend it.

yeah they're a pretty good company. For the record, I'm happy with my white earthenware pot. I've run it through the dishwasher many times so far and it's still working great. I would have bought the bone china one but the spout on the earthenware pot looked more dripless to me.

glad to hear upton is keeping their reputation up. Except for pu-er, they're pretty much the only ones I buy from these days.

Renee, Is the new pot drip-free? Which model did you get?

Thanks, I've been wondering.

Spare baskets are great if you want a different tea between multiple infusions of a green or white.

Kewl.

Yes.

They have good teas, also. I usually order from Upton with occasional forays to other vendors for things I can't get from them.

I wasn't aware of that - good to know.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you got a Chatsford that pleases you.

I chose the 4 cup Chatsford by Queen's Bone China (though the box says London Teapot Company) with the green accent stripe.

So far the pot has been drip-free. The earthenware model seemed drip-free but tea drips collected on the bottom of the spout--I only found them when cleaning the pot since it would stain there. Typically I had to wipe off the spout before putting one of my tea cosies on the pot.
