Yamamotoyama tea gives me a headache

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried Yamamotoyama tea (Genmai-Cha type) or the Brown Rice with Green tea kind??? I've recently bought it from a chinese supermarket and the tea bags come in aluminum sealed bags but I find that I have bad reactions to it like I get a headache after drinking it on a lot of occassions. I don't know the cause of this but I hope its not from them adding artificial flavorings or msg when they roast the brown rice and mix it in with the tea.

Artificial flavorings or whatnot is most probably not a concern with Yamamotoyama's Genmain-cha. Perhaps roasted rice as a drink just doesn't agree with you. Mugi-cha -- made from just roasted barley -- makes me feel out of sorts.

You may simply be allergic to the rice. As far as I know, there are no other additives.

Rice stinks. I can't stand the stuff.

It's an acquired taste, like bergamot. Some people take two seconds to acquire it. Some take a few tastes, some would rather have their tongues cut out first. I happen to like genmaicha and Korean barley tea, but Earl Grey? I'd rather not. Chacun au son gout, I say.

Perhaps you're right but do you think they add anything at all to the roasted rice whether its artificial or not ? Or is the rice just roasted with water and whatnot???? Perhaps its not artificial ingredients but may be some other "natural" additive that isn't agreeing with me.

Believe me, I have tried it on several occasions, just like the bergamot. I guess you are right. You need to have the right tastes.
