BenRiach Curiositas

Hi All, Just to get away from the bitching, has anyone tried the above? It's the only(or claims to be)the only peated Speyside malt. Nose:Smoke, peat and light sherry. Taste:More peat, fruit and sherry. Finish:Long.smooth with no burn. Fast becoming my fav new malt, along with Aberlour a'bunadh. Cheers, Drew

I have a bottle of the Curiositas open, and like it quite a bit. It's not dissimilar to the Jura Superstition, although I think I like the BenRiach better.

I see there's another peated BenRiach called Authenticus, but it's a

21-year-old and I fear it might be expensive, assuming I can find it at all.

I tried it at Whisky Live Glasgow and found it to be...unbalanced? Almost as though it had had the peat somehow added to it at the last moment.

I found the Benromach Peat Smoke to be better, but that might just be me. Certainly the Curiositas gets very good reviews elsewhere.

Uzytkownik napisal:

I don't know, I haven't had the Benromach Peat Smoke, but that's probably because everything that I have had from that distillery was extremely disappointing.

Absolutely. The 21yo Authenticus is a lovely malt, well worth the extra penny.

Confirm. There are a lot of peated Speysiders. Also, where do you draw the line between *peated* and *unpeated*? Would Mortlach 16yo OB be peated or unpeated? There definitely is peat in it. Same goes for Glenfarclas, Aberlour and many more. But yes, Ardmore is unmistakeably peaty. And lovely too.
