Curiously, (or maybe not) Dalmore Cigar Malt has a nice balance of cake and citrus that makes a good match to the "barnyard" flavours of a good Cuban cigar. The Glenmorangie Port Wood also has a fruity, slightly spicy flavour that does not overwhelm the smoke. I recently tasted the MacCallan 12 y for the first time, while smoking some Cuban cigars, and found it to be another good match. It's now on my "to buy" list.

Personally, I take a glass of rum with my stogies. Save the single-malt good stuff for when your taste buds are not overwhelmed.

Good malts for cigars, though I didn't care for the Dalmore. Had to try it for the name, but found it lacking. I would add Balvenie Double Wood to your list.

I agree to an extent. I love Lagavulin, but the stuff is so overwhelming, it hides the cigar. I think a nice scotch with a stogie is Laphraoig. Similar to Lagie, but not quite as powerful. It lets the cigar come through.

...now if only I could find a place to smoke one is Michigan this time of year!

My first taste of Dalmore was a similar experience. I tried it because other cigar smokers had suggested it. After a few drams with different cigars, I've come to like it more and more. You may wish to give it another try, with... oh a Monte No.1 or an RyJ Cedros Deluxe. The Double Wood is certainly on my list of favorite malts, but I don't find that the honey flavours stand up as well with a good Havana. With something a bit milder, such as the Fuente line from the Dominican Republic, the Balvenie works well.

I hear you M! I'm even further North, and it's certainly not BBQ on the deck weather here. We have the greatest luck to have a very nice "international class" hotel in town that has a seperate smoking lounge, with comfy leather furniture, a great selection of malts, and a policy that encourages you to bring a fine cigar and enjoy. I recently spent a evening with a good friend, a number of drams of MacCallan 12 y, and some fine Habanos.

Most civilized.

Agreed. I had drifted away from the Cuban criterion into general cigars. ;-) Had a dram of Bruichladdich with a Havana Hoyo Epicure No. 2 last night ... quite nice.

There are a number of places in downtown (Grand Rapids) which allow cigars, but I miss herfing out at the pool.

Actually, I'm lucky enough to have a very good friend who has similar tastes and has a ventilated cigar room!

My wife just got me an Aberlour 15 year old. Very smooth and a far cry above the rest. Big change from the standard Aberlour 10 year old. No water or ice in this glass. Take a snifter and put it in the freezer for a bit. Thats enough. Now pour, snip your stoggey and your all set.

I dare say, dear old chap, that true civilization lies in correctly spelling the name of the delightful and noble spirit that's called The Macallan! ;-)

Reminds me of one of my favourite movies ... Night Shift ...

"Would you and the Mrs. care for a drink?"

"Oh, we don't drink."

"Alright ... how do you like New York so far?"

"Oh, we don't care for it at all ..."

"Perhaps, if you drank, you would."
