Does Scotch go Bad?

late 70s or early 80s ... Is there any likelihood that the whisky is still good? Does it have any other value in the marketplace?

Just like wines that have been found in the holds of sunken ships from a century or more ago--it might be spectacular. There is always the possibility that seal is loose, or the cork decrepit, but I would give you $42 for it any day of the week, and if I did, I probably could be criminally prosecuted for theft? fraud?

Chances are that bottle is one sublime little jewel.

Chances are good it's just as you left it (unless whenever you "have only occasionally remembered it was there" you poured yourself a shot!). You didn't say but I'm assuming it was an 18 year old. As an early 60's Mac

18 it probably does have a value in the market place if it is still in good (un-opened) condition. Whether it could be easily sold depends largely on local laws, etc. For a rough sense of what an old Mac is worth you could check

but I wouldn't expect to find a '63 Mac 18 in every auction. Still it can give you some idea of the possible monetary value of an old Mac.

It has another value: it's a great example of the whisky of a great distillery. I wish it was sitting in my closet! (or better yet, the table before me tonight.)

I am hoping you have stored it in the vertical orientation. Wine likes to be on its side. Whisky likes to be upright as far as I know.

Should be fine. I'd love to hear how this turned out! Thanks on behalf of all of us for doing this experiment...
