My long long search for Japanese whisky has come to an end. Actually, it came to an end a couple of weeks ago. I got my hands on some Nikka Yoichi 12 year old 45%. I ordered it from the Whisky Exchange and they shipped it to me without any problems at all. It was a little expensive tho. Shipping cost more than the actually whisky. Around $120 total.
I'm still not an expert on describing whisky they most of you all do - but my description of this Nikka Yoichi 12: first off, very mellow. It has a very mellow nose and also taste. It's very very soft on the palate. The first time I had a dram of this whisky I thought it was the easiest 45% alc whisky I have ever had. It's very easy on the stomach.
I could drink this on a nightly basis. It's not something I have to be in mood to drink, like my Ardbeg 10. So, would I spend another $120 to buy another bottle of this? Well, right now - no. But I am willing to spend that on other bottles of Japanese whisky to try them out.
Anyway, I'm enjoying it! And for anyone looking for Japanese whisky in the U.S. and cant find it, give The whisky exchange a try.
