Glendronach 15 Sherried?

Hmmm. This is indeed a 15 yo. Twas a really dusty box. Prolly been sittin' there awhile. Went down and bought it today. Only one on the shelf. Well under $50US. So is this gonna be a sleeper?? I like sherried malts.

I have a 15yo on my shelf. It's bought in Germany Summer 2003.

It has not been opened yet, but it is definitly sherried.It says on the bottle: "100% matured in sherry casks"

And on the back: "only matured in sherry casks, butts & puncheons"

It is surely very dark in colour, even at only 40%abv, but as I suspected, there is an addition to the label "mit Farbstof". German for "with colour", E150 I suppose, since that is the only allowed addition to Scotch Whisky.

Another thing strikes me, when reading the box. They mention a.o. their malting floor and coal fired stills, which according to them "shows that the old ways makes the best malt whisky". But do they use the floormalting? I thought only 5 distilleries were still doing that: Laphroaig, Bowmore, Springbank, Highland Park and Balvenie.

I did some research...

The Glendronach started distilling again in 2002 They do have their own floor maltings. I don't know how much, if any, of their malt is homemade...

I Love it!

The only problem is that here in Canada it is no longer distributed - I was told that the profitability of this product here (especially in BC) is too low thus they are only selling it in specific countries.

I did buy a bottle to save - yea right - like that would happen - GONE!

I have tried the 12 yr a couple of times - not bad.
