Finlaggan ?

We were just mentioning old Finlaggin...

In the thread "Re: Islay Malts...how many are they?" Douglas even gave a tasting note.

To the best of my memory it is not a blend or a vatted whisky. It's a single malt from an Islay distillery that the bottler can not or chooses not to name. I always thought it was a Laphroaig (and Allied hasn't done much to encourage other bottlers to name "Laphroaig" on their labels - they sued Murray McDavid over it), but others have guessed it to be a Lagavulin. Caol Ila would be the other reasonable guess. There are good reasons why it would be very unlikely to be an Ardbeg, Bowmore, or Port Ellen...

I don't recall it being a 12yo. Perhaps another version has also been bottled with an age statement? (Or my memory is a bit rusty.) The ones I tasted seemed young and spirity, but I don't automatically count that a bad thing with Islays.

When I was in Hamburg there were two versions: a 12 and a no-age. I got the no-age and I will happily trade what I have left for a box of chocolates.
