Peaty blend...

Dec 01, 2003 5 Replies

I've searched the archives of this ng, but got lost... I am looking for a peaty (and if possible: Smokey) blend which is for sale in the Netherlands too and won't cost as much as a single malt... My malts are crying to me out loud... but my wallet is too as well... so if I could find a 'Islay' blend for less money... I would be very happy!

Thanks in advance,

Michel

Ok, you are looking for either an Ileach (which is Lagavulin, 8 y.o. and already cheap) or Islay Mist (blend with a heart of Laphroaig, blended by

). Your third opportunity is Black Bottle Whisky (Blend with Islay whiskies).

Michel,

Try Isle Of Skye, it's got a healthy dose of Lagavulin in it. Another is M-B's Islay Hallmark 8yo. With the blends, usually the younger the better for Islay zing. For a nice smoky vatted try Blackadder's "Smoking Islay".

You can get Single Malts that cost about just as much as a blend. From Islay you have (all available in the Netherlands):

  • Signatory Vintage Islay Malt
  • Sound of Islay
  • Dun Bheagan Islay
  • Finlaggan
  • Fraser's Islay Malt

Thank you all. I've bought 'Black Bottle' to start with, and allthough I taste more sweetness than with the single-malts... It's already the best blend I've tasted in my life.

Thanks a lot,

Michel
