Forgotten Distilleries?

Actually, I forgot to add Glen Scotia & Springbank to my list of visited distilleries. They are both interesting.

When I was in Scotland about 5 years ago I visited the Clynelish distillery in Brora. I don't dare to say it's a forgotten distillery, but it wasn't exactly crowded ;o) I enjoyed the tour as I did (and still do) enjoy the Clynelish whisky.

I will go to the Clynelish distillery. Both because I enjoy the dram, but also because I have been told that Brora is a lovely village.

Glen Scotia: +44 (0) 1586 552288 Springbank: +44 (0) 1586 552085 I didn't visit Glen Scotia, so I don't know about their visiting hours, but please note that Springbank is only open for tours on monday through thursday.

They like to do things in an old-fashioned way, so they don't have that many computers, at least not in production. When the barley is prepared it sits in big silo's, and to identify which barley goes for each of the 3 different spirits, they have cardboard signs, htey move around. And they use blackboards and chalk besides that.

And remember to visit Eaglesome (Cadenhead's Whisky Shop), when in Cambeltown. If you visit Springbank, you don't get a dram as custom elsewhere, but you bring your ticket to Eaglesome, and get a miniature especially bottled for distillery visitors. They have a nice selection of Cadenhead's, just bottled this year. However I got to taste a Laphroaig 13YO 58,4%, which was absolutely brilliant, but they didn't have a bottle :-(! Get their pricelist, and if you visit other shops, look for it.

Anyway they have som nice Bowmore, Bruichladdich and Caol Ila too.

There's a Laphroaig 1990 13 y.o. at 58.4% abv among the new releases from Cadenhead's. Try their shop in Cologne, Germany. They have it available for Euro 59,-
