Major malt maniacs updates

Dec 11, 2003 4 Replies

Hi all,

Interesting threads lately, especially on some ever-going questions like 'What's the best cheap Islayer?' or 'What are the best bang-for-you-buck malts?'

So, after months of hard - and most enjoyable - work, I'm happy to announce that we just published our 2003 malt maniacs awards and medals here:

Our malt maniacs monitor has grown up to more than 1700 different malts scored, many by 3 to 12 different tasters. A new PDF version is on-line as well.

Of course, comments welcome!

Have fun,

And Santé!

Serge (and all the malt maniacs)

Cheers to the Malt Maniacs and Malt Madness, the greatest whisky site I've seen yet! I'm for 95% a lurker but I must express my appreciation of all the hard work of the Maniacs. I'm a bit puzzled by the awards, for example the Laphroaig 10 yo Cask strength didn't get a reward while all Maniacs seem to love it (and so do I). Must be the proceedings... ?

I'm looking forward to read future maniacal malt adventures!

cheers, Mark H

Hi Mark,

Oh, thanks for your kind words!

I understand what you mean regarding Laphroaig 10yo C/S, put please consider that the awards addressed only malts that have been submitted by the industry. There were dozens, but sure it's only 'a drop in the ocean'.

So yes, Allied didn't submit that great Laphroaig, which would have won something, that's for sure. Perhaps they will next time!

Santé,

Serge

Hi again Mark et al,

I forgot to mention that the members of the MM mailinglist already received an explanation about the details of the Malt maniacs awards and that much more details will be published in the Awards Addendum in a few days...

Santé,

Serge

Ah, I thought something like that. I'm getting curious about the winning Talisker but it's out of my budget... my first 100+ Euro bottle will probably be a Springbank 21yo.. some day... Actually I'm sipping and sniffing the Laphroaig CS right now, the bad weather makes it even better! I'll join the mailing list, wasn't aware of it, thanks.

santé, Mark H
