I see even this newsgroup isn't immune to spam. What can we do to get rid of this junk?

Nothing! You can try killfiling them, but it's everywhere. Even in tightly moderated NewsGroups. Don't feed the trolls. Ignore it as much as you can. If you MUST respond, check to ensure that you are NOT cross-posting your response to other NewsGroups. Damage control.
