1979 Veuve Clicquot Rose

Jan 02, 2005 2 Replies

My wife and I recently acquired a bottle of 1979 Veuve Clicquot Rose while in San Francisco. I have been unable to find any significant information on the internet, so was wondering if anyone had any information on this vintage from Veuve? The label doesn't indicate "reserve", although it appears from the Veuve Clicquot site that this particular label is in fact reserve.

Thanks in advance, Gary

Wine Spectator gave it an "89" back in a July 16, 1986 review but without any accompanying comments.

Besides good storage another factor in an older champagne is acidity IMHO opinion. If the WS review talked about the Rose having "good" acidity--that's a good sign, if it used the word "flabby" that's not. But good news Broadbent rated the Rose 4* as of 1998 remarking on its acidity. 5* is his top rating--Michael Broadbent's Vintage Wine, Webster's
