Finally popped the cork last night on this bottle that we were given while touring the caves in Reims (still don't know why received it but . . .
I had treated the bottle gingerly the last couple of days because I am not one to like my Champagne to explode. so I opened it to a firm pressure but only a faint rush of gas. On pouring I noticed that it did not foam up extensively but still had good presence of CO2 making it easy to pour. Since I have a slight cold I was clueless on the nose other than to say I could make out the grapes.
Color Pale yellow with I swear a slight tinge of green- I was expecting something oxidized and brownish - I worry about that sort of thing, but this wine had been kept to the best of my ability and if anything could have stayed put away a while longer (though why risk that!)
In the mouth it had a full mouth feel smooth with no sharp edges. the fruit was very much alive and it drank well with a clean but not lingering aftertaste.
It was a hit. Would I spend the money over La Francaise which I love, I doubt it. But if anyone has any that they want to get rid of .. .
