2 more reasons to drink reds

I recently heard about the study that found yet two more ingredients in red wines (some varietals more than others) that contribute to lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.... The names of them escape me but i'm sure you'll find them on a google search if needed.

The finding said that the ingredients did NOT exist in whites, though, but this isn't a problem for me as I favor reds strongly.

I say HOORAY, and lift my glass in toast to it and enjoy....

Yes, the saponins were announced at the recent American Chemical Society meeting in NYC. The two big health-related wine components, though, are quercetin and resveratrol. In the latest issue of Science, a study was disucssed in which those two molecules were found to strongly interact with a gene that is associated with longevity!! This in addition to their known effects in lowering blood pressure and preventing cancer.

Wine: truly a Universal panacea... ;-)

Man, that is tooo sweet... after decades of preaching from certain sectors against drinking for any reason and almost in any quantity, and hearing all the medical reports supposedly supporting a diet totally devoid of it... we NOW hear that, in moderation (like anything else), there are healthy side effects.

I didn't know about the link to the longevity gene. Just more icing on the cake.
