Anyone here into Texas wine?

Is that from the winery south of Houston?

I really like Llano Estacado as well. Many wineries in and around Austin and Fredricksburg have some very interesting and tasty wines. Prices tend to be a bit higher than I would like to see though.

I don't care for most TX wine, but I like the Kick Butt Cab which is not too bad from a Winery located near Johnson City.

Majestic Liquor Stores carries most of Becker's products, generally cheaper than down in the Fredricksburg tourist zone. The one closest to me carries the ones you mentioned but I don't remember the prices. They have a whole big section of Texas wines, BTW. You can generally see what store has what in stock on their web site.

Some other discount liquor stores in the DFW area generally carry a good selection of Texas wines, too.

I used to buy some Texas wine as a gag gift back in the early '70s. The wine now is generally pretty good though -- until recently lowish (but not lowest) and medium-priced wines seemed to me to be about the same as a California equivalent except with the California wine a little cheaper. Lately, as California wine has gotten more expensive, they seem pretty comparable, dollar for dollar. That's based on a completely unscientific or very extensive comparison -- just my general impression.

One of the things I've noticed about a lot of the Texas "wineries" is that they can be quite vague about where their grapes or juice comes from. I suspect that some (many?) of them are buying leftovers from other states. Nothing so unusual about that, though, I suppose, except it could lead to big year-to-year variations in quality.

Yes, I'm very familiar with Becker.

On that subject, I was addressing the issue of Texas wine in general, not just Becker, per the thread title. There are over 100 Texas wineries, as you may know.

I was also trying to give you a heads up on where you could get the wines you mentioned around the DFW metroplex, and some other Texas wines you might like to try. Sorry if that offended you somehow.

Lone Star has two locations near Dallas, in McKinney and Grapevine.

And there is are two tasting rooms in the DFW airport that specialize in Texas wines. When I have the time I always make a stop in terminals D or A.
