No, because there are enough tossers in the UK to have a torrid tofu tossers tournament today.

BTW, has " tosser" the same meaning as we have have in the UK, ie a complete and utter tosser is a real w***er, and I know a few

"Tosser" as an epithet is only used here by the Anglophile set. I picked it up from the Pythons way back when, but used it here mainly for alliteration. Tosspot is another favorite of mine, probably stemming from my days reading Spy magazine in the '80s (the separated at birth feature was a consistent hit with me). These days, it no doubt wouldn't be the same, though. As someone (Mort Sahl?) said, pointed satire is no longer possible when reality itself is absurd.

Interesting! Note also that

-- What I'd heard earlier about poultry livers concerned lipids: That though fatty, their fat included a lot of monounsaturates, related to olive oil and considered relatively healthy among non-fish fats.

-- The article once again assumed that the animals are "force-fed." In some regions such as California that was inaccurate, since force-feeding was long outlawed even before the subject became fashionable. Nor is force-feeding necessary -- I assume it's an expedient to speed up the process. I think I reported on a newsgroup the experience of Bay Area cooking professionals I know who dropped in on the principal California foie-gras farm around 2000. They came back surprised at the realities you don't see in casual or polemical reporting. "The feeders," they said, "are the ones who need protection!" A feeder would appear with quantities of grain and be set upon by mobs of ducks that were loose in the area. The animals had big appetites. It sounded like a scene from Hitchcock's movie _The Birds._

I understand that Tom Lehrer stopped writing satirical songs when Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize - life was imitating art! Graham
