As a new member of this group it is nice to see a couple of familiar people mentioned! I live in Australia and know Gavin Trott, the man who runs the Auswine Forum, quite well. His online shop, auswine.com is also a good place to pick up Australian wine that is otherwise impossible to obtain. People from all over the world buy from him.
Mark Wickman of Wickman's Auctions is a good bloke who regularly runs charity wine auctions. He places a great deal of emphasis on correct storage of wine (vital in Adelaide, given summer temperatures can reach
45C/115F!) and grades wine lots depending upon their storage history.
I run a climate controlled wine storage facility at Glen Ewin Estate in Adelaide that offers the highest grade for storage history from Mark and many of Gavin's overseas clients store their wine here until they are ready to drink it or sell it.
I would recommend these two guys sites for the information they hold (the Auswine Forum is essential reading if you are fond of Aussie wine) and also as sources of wine. There is so much competition in the market place in Australia at the moment that the price cutting is ridiculous!
In fact, have a look at a few other retailers too. Danmurphys.com.au, edinburgh.com.au, winestar.com.au, nicks.com.au, just to name a few.
I hope this doesn't sound too much like an advertisement for anything but Aussie wine!
Cheers! Matthew
