California Internship

Sorry that your thread deteriorated into a geo-centric mess. I wish that I had some contacts to offer you, but I do not, and, so far, none of the CA producers, who read/contribute here, have chimed in.

You might wish to contact the Napa Valley Wine Producer's Association (amongst others), and see if they have a resource list for you to contact.

Though it may not be exactly what you, and your friend, are searching for, the Amador/Sierra Foothills area has begun producing some good wines, using typically IT varietals. May be a good starting point, considering your area of current expertise.

I would also suggest contacting Picchetti, Santa Cruz Mountains, just south of San Francisco. They do some excellent IT varietals, but are known (to me, at least) for their Zinfandels. They work from their vineyards, plus with sourced fruit. They are a small operation, but produce top-notch wines from many varietals, Cab, Chard, Sangiovese, Zin, etc. Smallish operation, but a great place. Visit their Web site:

and I'd e-mail them at: snipped-for-privacy@picchetti.com. I've met and done barrel tastings with some of the staff, but do not know exactly who you should contact. Wish I had a sure- fire contact to offer you.

I wish you success.
