Can children legally consume wine at home?

As a parent I find the difference between 5 and 6 a little difficult to understand! :)

Do you have a pointer to the legislation, Mike? I was looking for it but didn't find. My understanding is that you can't buy until

16 (cigarettes either) but that "consommation" was permitted.

Interested if there is a Napoleonic text, as for most everything else. ;)

I was brought up in Britain and was allowed about a teaspoonful of dessert wine on special occasions like Xmas and family celebrations. At the age of 7 or so, I decided I did not like wine at all and did not touch alcohol again until college. Ah, decline and fall!

With all respect, I think this is the legislation pertaining to sale or gift by a licensed establishment. It doesn't say anything about consummation in the home. There's nothing here that says you can't give a child alcohol in your own home. Perhaps I wasn't very clear, or misread. I was interested in legislation pertaining to the home, I thought you implied giving to a child was illegal, period.

Ah, the rat's nest of the law! :)

Really? Not even your own child, at home? In France, of all places? I'm astonished!

Feel free to be surprised, but it is true. There is a huge difference between the law as it pertains to licensed premises and what one may do outside such premises.
