Seems that either DaleW, or Mark Lipton, did a few tastings of Kirkland wines (think they were either Rhone, or Burgs, but could be wrong), and the results were not that good.

Best way for you is to buy the wine and try it. I have found only 1 Chilean wine, that I would buy, but others really like a bunch of them. Am I right, and all of them wrong? NO. It just means that I do not like all of the Chilean wines, that I have tried, and I do attempt to keep and open mind, and taste them, when they are offered. Several distributors and retailer know of my feelings, and will stick a free-bee in my basket, hoping that they will hit a positive nerve. So far they are all batting 0.00 with me - with one exception, and that rec. was from a sommelier in London (FR restaurant, at that), and he gave me another free glass. He was right. That wine was very good! I had to eat my words, or drink his wine, as the case may be.

There are a couple of Kirkland wines I have bought ( and I try to buy them all) - namely, their Tawny Port, Tuscany & Pauillac.

Re Chilean wines, we do not care for them either. But seeing another Kirkland wine I am tempted.

However, DH is at Costco right now and so we decided not to get the Kirkland Chilean, but to get a Chilean Marques Concha 2005 Cab Sauv rated in the WS as "90 - Smart Buy and at one time, Best Buy of the Week andDrink now thru 2007. "

Thanks for your answer. Dee

Let us all hear of your TN's on these. Though I do purchase a lot of wine from Costco [Cave Creek store, PHX, AZ], I have yet to do any of the Kirkland wines. Considering what I do buy and consume, I just don't know that there is time, should they prove to be less than I would enjoy.

Thanks, Hunt

I am going to have to learn how to 'do' TN's. The first one I was able to do was "peppery" last night on a bottle of Barossa, 95% shiraz, 5% viognier, 2004. I smelled it first, didn't ascertain peppery; then took a sip and I could taste peppery; then after that I smelled the peppery.

I need a find a list of TN's that I can refer to so that I can look for some of the usual ones, such as currants, vs. berries, etc.

It used to be that the UC Davis wheel was available online, but you have to buy it now.

This might be useful too:
