Costco tries again with 2003 Pauillac

Sep 04, 2006 3 Replies

The Rose Hill/Kirkland, WA Costco has recently added a "Kirkland" labelled 2003 Pauillac for $25. After my less-than-pleasant experience with their 2000 St. Emilion Grand Cru for $16, I'm not taking any chances on this latest offering.

If anyone does, please report back.

Cheers,

JJ

How long has Costco been branding bordeaux wines with private labels? Does anyone know where/who the importer is?

It's only been in the past 2 years that word of it has reached this newsgroup. See:

I would suspect that that information is kept well away from public scrutiny. Chances are that whoever brings it in is a large negociant/importer who is selling off surplus wine on the cheap.

I bought it; I'm not an expert on French wine, but I find it pleasant, with good structure and what I regard as correct fruit. Good stuff, though I'm likely to spend $16 for a BV Rutherford before another $25 on this wine. It certainly wasn't flawed, IMHO.
