D. Sokolin

I'm writing to let a.s.w.'ers know about a recent unpleasant experience in dealing with D. Sokolin.

On December 2 I placed an order on their website for one bottle each of Montelena 2001, Ambroise Corton Le Rognets 2002, and Altesino Montosoli

1999. Today, January 3, they still don't have all three bottles for shipment. On December 3, however, they billed my credit card for all three bottles plus shipping.

I called them to cancel the order and wound up on the phone with a spectacularly rude representative named "Darren." He interrupted me several times to recite his boilerplate speech in a thoroughly condescending tone, refusing to even listen to what I had to say.

I've talked to my credit card company; they've agreed to give me a credit for the full amount.

On the basis of this experience I don't recommend D. Sokolin for online purchases.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience with Sokolin, as all mine (three in 2004) were quite positive. On the other hand, I always dialed their 800 number and had them verify availability before giving them the order (that goes for ANY wine I find on the internet, with ANY company -- you can't expect amazon.com quality from these places). I found the Sokolin staff to be very friendly, and my orders were always shipped the next business day (which I also verified before giving the order).

That IS ridiculous. It should be standard practice to only charge the credit card when the items are ready to be shipped. Hope this doesn't turn you away from buying wine online altogether! e.

Not at all. I've had very good results over the years buying from a variety of online vendors. This is my first bad experience.

I've ordered from Sokolin as well, they really don't understand the internet too well. Phone and email works fine, ordering on their online forms doesn't seem to work too well.
