Strictly on the recommendation of the wine store proprietor, I bought my father a bottle of the 2002 Kongsgaard Viognier/Rousanne for Christmas. This is a fairly expensive California wine at $85, well outside my usual price range, so I was a little nervous about presenting it to Dad (he likes to convey the impression of a great connoisseur, though he isn't). Without my even having to drop hints, he offered to serve it later in the week, so I got a chance to taste it and it was absolutely spectacular!
Robert Parker (who I'm aware we love to hate) gave it a 96 rating, so I know I'm not the only one who was blown away by this great, young, unusual wine..
Now I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with the other Kongsgaard offerings? I know John Kongsgaard makes a Syrah and a Chardonnay which are also highly rated and even more highly priced. I'd love to try them. Has anyone???
(They also have beautiful labels if you haven't seen them.)
