Food pairing conundrum

I'll just cut to the chase.

What do you serve with:

1977 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

-- and --

1981 R. Lopez de Heredia Rioja Vina Bosconia Gran Reserva.

The two wines are of different styles, though perhaps age has mellowed the Cab. Would any one dish work? Roasted leg of lamb, perhaps?

Thoughts welcome.

Roast goose or, barring that, roast chicken would serve both wines well. A hard cheese like an aged Manchego would also go well with both.

While I agree with Mark that goose or chicken would be good, I think the leg of lamb is right on the mark. I wouldn't go for rack, because I like really rare, but pink leg would be fine. Interested to hear what you think of the Bosconia, I have one bottle, haven't tasted in years (the Tondonia GR was very good couple months ago, I also have the '81 Tondonia Reserva).

Don't have much experience with '77 CA. But in general the 60s/70s CalCabs had high acids, so if tannins have integrated may not be as dissimilar as you expect. Looking forward to report
