GV and wet dogs

Having tried and like a number of GVs on a recent trip to Austria, I was really looking forward to trying a 1999 Smaragd, Domaene Wachau Terrassen GV. Unfortunately, the nose was overwhelmingly of wet dog. Is wet dog generally indicative of a defect or is it simply one of the myriad flavors/aromas that a wine can naturally exhibit?

So should I give another bottle from the same seller a try or should one assume that the entire lot there will be tainted?

Yes. Cork taints have nothing to to with the distributor. (And if it's a retailer, bring him back the tainted bottle for replacement.)

No.

And when you take it back tell the seller you are a big fan of screwtops. Lord knows I am becoming one.
