Homage to Al Brounstein

A few nights ago I gathered with some friends who each brought a few bottles of Diamond Creek from their cellars. We all knew Al and spent many hours listenening to his tales of the early days in Napa and how he smuggled in cuttings from Bordeaux. He steadfastly refused to tell us which Chateaux were in which of his four vineyards or as he called them "microclimates". There were far too many wines to post the notes here but for any who are interested the notes are posted at

The notes are Roger Gentile's. The RRT comparison to Margaux was first suggested by Al Brounstein....with a wink and a nod suggesting a link perhaps.

Nice tribute to a great gentleman. I did similar, but since wife and most wino friends were out of town, had to settle for downing the DC usually by myself. A lot of toasts over those few nights.

"Open House," will never be the same again.

Thanks for the tribute, Hunt

If you enjoy wine and dine travelogue type stuff. Read "La Tavola Veritas" at Gentiles.com. It recounts our trip last year to Tuscany. It was the aftermath of this trip and the subsequent photos that prompted me to lose the 35 extra pounds that I've been sporting.
