Bartolo Mascarello has left us

I saw this news yesterday and pased along to some friends. My friend Joe was deeply saddened. He told great stories a couple of visits to Bartolo. He went last month, and winery was closed. So he went to cafe where Bartolo would hang out, was told he was in hospital ("room 6"). Joe dropped a book at desk, not wanting to disturb Bartolo, and said he'd catch him on next trip to Italy.

The '82 & '85 Barolos, both still young in last few years, were some of the finest wines I've drunk. Even the '91, scarcely a stellar year, was a wine with great character (like its producer).

That is indeed sad news, Mike. Thank you for the update.
