Went to my local wine store, right across the street, and he did not have one Sauvignon Blanc from anywhere. Needed one tonight with pork lo mein. The Matua from Marlbourough was great. Grapefruit without being too citrussy. Medium-bodied with a nice,long finish without the metal. Great wine for USD

I agree that Matua Valley SB is quite good in that price range. However, for roughly the same money I find that the Kim Crawford SB is an even better value.

(You may remember, we visited Matua on a rainy Sunday!)
I too misinterpreted the OPs statement; and I am not contradicting your response - merely expanding.
Matua Valley holds a unique place in NZs very brief winemaking history.
Founded in 1970, MV was the first company to plant and make Sauvignon in New Zealand, although not in Marlborough (that honour goes to Montana) - of course, it was Cloudy Bay who put it on the world stage in the mid/late 80s.
However, they produce quite an array of wines under various labels; not a vineyard with the highest profile, but marketers of well made, middle of the road wines - usually well priced.
Sauvignon from both Hawkes Bay and Marlborough; Chardonnay (in fact one of NZs best under the Ararimu label); Riesling; and a host of reds including Cabernet & Merlot; Pinot Noir; Grenache and Syrah.
Matua is now part of the Fosters - Beringer Blass Group with wine interests in California, Australia, Italy, and Chile.

I just had some Matua last night, I believe Beringer imports it to the US. Superb stuff, really enjoyable, we were thinking it's not as grapefruit as it is gooseberry, it's really nice drinking wine.
