Mondavi selling off it's better wineries to focus on plonk

Loading thread data ...

I shouldn't call it plonk. Most Woodbridge it's so bad, and generally I don't drink wine much better.

I like to buy vintage Ports and Bordeaux wines that will sit for years, and then I drink the "plonk" myself.

I'm a collector, and it just seems silly to divest of some great wineries and keep the pedestrian stuff. Sees like one day they'll regret not owning the prestige labels.

Maybe it's good business, though, I don't know.

Hey Mr. Curmudgeon, I don't mean to be a nit-picker, but (to me) your post is very confusing. I'm not sure if you like/don't like ... whatever. :-)

Regardless, Cheers, Dick

Betcha the family, sans Michael, buy the luxury wineries back, or at least RMW.

Meanwhile, it's probable that MOND will become a more predictable producer of money. The lifestyle brands have been responsible for the lion's share of revenue for a long time.

This is basically tacit admission that you can't run a luxury winery as a public corporation.

Hmmm - how about LV-MH?

I'm kind of kidding, because I generally drink wines below a lot of people's standards. And the really good wines I buy sit in storage forever.

People I know think I'm nuts because I'll spend 50 dollars on wine it seems like I'll never drink, then drink the same 6 or 8 dollar wines that I convince them to buy.

They make a lot of things other than wine.

Geographically diverse winerys, Cognac, watches, jewelry, clothing, fashion, leather, accessories, perfume and cosmetics.

LV-MH is much more than one, or even a few, luxury wineries.
