More Amazon

Unbelievably, Amazon now has the Spiegelau buy 6 Bordeaux get 6 Burg free (or vice versa) deal deal for $24.99. If you find one more item to push it over $25, you get free shipping. So $2.08 per stem. Betsy will kill me if I order more glasses, but its tempting.

I wouldn't count on Christmas delivery (they've been backordered before), but this is great pricing on good (if not great ) stems Dale

The ones I ordered two weeks ago arrived 5 days later (using the free shipping option). Who knows now, however...

Don't ship to NZ though!!!

(Says Lord St.Helier, not too broken hearted, as he sits in gorgeous summer sun, with a rather stunning, lightly chilled Wither Hills 2003 Sauvignon Blanc to hand!!!!)

Well, La ti da to yerself, Lord St. H! Whilst enjoying that fine weather (says I while snow falls without) riddle me this: Why are two of my bottles of 2002 Palliser Estate SB sealed with a cork whereas the other is finished with a Stelvin closure? Hmmm? For the record, they have much the same character, though Jean found the cork-finished product a bit rounder and arguably more complex. Take that, AWRI! ;-)

Palliser bottled under both - fearing that some of their export markets may still be a little "conservative" - all of the initial NZ release was under Stelvin, whilst the very last on the domestic market was product destined for export, and cork sealed. - but diverted to the local market, where, incidentally, they actually get more $$$$

IMESHO - the cork did impart some characteristics to the wine which was not present in the screwcaped wine; I am not saying this negatively; they were simply different.

Well, as we are a very advanced country (well, our relationship to the international dateline compared to the US), LOTR ROTK hits the theatres here in 7 1/2 hours (midnight release) - so, guess who will be there (just as we were for the second part of the trilogy).

Madness - well maybe - but, just to prove our insanity, we have, this week, sat through the DVDs of Fellowship and Towers - just to refresh our memories.

So, it will be bed at 3:45am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once took advantage of this, $2 per stem is really good. I now have about

90 stems of assorted Spiegelau in the basement as backup, and my 3 children are all getting a dozen stems among their Christmas presents. Hard to pass up.

Hi st.Gimli,

The extended versions I hope. It's amazing what ended up on the cutting room floor considering the length of the standard movie.

We will be doing the same but during the Christmas holiday as the extended version of Towers will be delivered by Santa.

Advanced in more ways than that, as you well know Milud! :-)

Hah! Our Thanksgiving festivities revolved around a goose dinner sandwiched between viewing the two Extended Editions with ca. 8 guests... In addition to her love of the stories, Jean has also developed quite a fondness for both Elijah and Viggo, so she's been nearly beside herself waiting for the arrival of part 3. For my part, I'm afraid that neither Cate Blanchett nor Liv Tyler quite live up to my visualization of Tolkein's descriptions -- but that's probably just me getting old and curmudgeonly! :P

Have fun -- and don't give anything away! And I'll watch you closely if ever an axe is at hand, AB...

Hi Milord Burke

Assum>> p.s. We shall be admiring NZ scenery tomorrow, courtesy of the opening >> of ROTK.

You too????

Supper is nearly ready, and in 1h30 we will be leaving home to go to OUR first night.

Ah, well we compensate for your advanced status by watching ata civilised time!

By the way... do PLEASE decide quickly about visiting la belle France, because I would very much like to organise an AFW open week around your visit, and people need to make plans for their hols if they can come, and I need to reserve the house so I don't book a room for some unsuspecting normal person!

All the best Ian (To reply by email PLEASE don't use "Reply to" but use my name at wanadoo.fr) Thanks.

Dang! You mean the glasses I bought 3 weeks ago are 5-bucks cheaper now??!! I think this is a ploy to get you to buy more from Amazon, since you need to purchase somethign for 1-penny more in order to receive free shipping.

Just to clarify one point, you do not need to buy anything else to get the free shipping. The free shipping is based on the cost of your purchase before any discounts. Since this purchase "rings" up as two at

24.99 or $49.98, minus a discount of 24.99, you will get the free shipping since the before discount price is over $25.

This was verified by my purchase on Tuesday.
