No way to beat your champagne lineup, since I am the only one to drink bubbly (junior doesn't drink, SWMBO is allergic to lee induced CO2: she will welcome the new year with a lychee flavored carbonized drink at 3.9% - not quite my pair of shoes!), so just a modest bottle of Piper Heidsieck to come in 2:50 hrs.

I have a friend who does not like most wine and especially not Champagne. However he has a taste for some of the low production micro brewery beers and ales that are made throughout the US now in many styles. He has driven many miles just to buy some micro brew than is not available locally. Some of these brews are not inexpensive.
I will be having a "black" wine for dinner in a little while - Cahors, Clos de Gamot 1937. If it is fit to drink, I will post a TN. I likely will then have a bit of NV Champagne at midnight.
Hello, It's 00:46 in 2007, noone blew themselves to teeny tiny bits with the fireworks, the Champers was (the frst one) Piper Heidsick in magnum (from the 50s), after which we had a Chablis in Magnum from 1986, and a Monbazillac from 1976. All in very good condition, thank you very much. The camel sends her best to J Murray Freeman.

Was the Piper Heidsieck from the 50s a NV wine from that era are a specific vintage? The reason I ask is that I have single bottles of the
1952 and 1959 that somehow never got opened many years ago, and I assumed they might be too old, so I have had no incentive to open them. If you opened one of these vintages, your comments would be of interest to me.__________________________________

No, it was a non-vintage. It is possible to make a crude estimate of the age by looking at the muzzle. The cork was in less than perfecct condition, the last piece had to be extracted with screw-pull. Still, the wine, a nice light gold verging on amber held a pleasant mousse, nose dominated by nuts and overripe apples - NICE overripe apples. Very enjoyable, and will go down as the best Champagne Id rank in 2006. I noticed a similarity between the nose of the fizz and the Chablis, from which I would deduce a hefty portion of Chardonnay. Please bear in mind that this was a magnum, so it would stand up to the passing years better than a normal 75. I know I do not have to point this out, really, just wnated to mention it.
I would be looking forward to your reports of the two 50s PH you mentioned.
