The death toll continues to rise, not on the level of 9/11 but the transport chaos is immense. How are the million odd commuters going to get home. All the tubes and main railway stations are shut, the buses are out in inner London.

We knew it would happen one day, not if, but when.

Indeed, it sounds horrific, John: the highest death toll since WWII. And one day after the jubilation about the 2012 Olympics... My deepest sympathies are with all concerned.

The savageness and randomness of modern terrorism makes this one world, one heart in the words of Bob Marley. Its like the London Blitz or Pearl Harbour squared for people of my generation. I've just returned from speeking to the latest graduates of the US Army's Advanced training for Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations at Fort Bragg. These young men and women will soon be in Afghanistan,.
