Too bad none of the professional wine snobs here answered you - but I will.


My circle does it for kicks quite a bit. We like to take a $150 bottle and mix it with a $10 bottle of a different wine Variety. The results are mostly better than worse.


We actually blended ten different cabs and the result was much better than any one of them alone.


You can also take two or more cheap bottles and blend your own "meritage", or two expensive ones or any combination you like - after all it's your money, and most of the "experts" here are nothing more than poetic blowhards who must lay awake nights trying to come up with complicated and clever wine descriptions.


If it tastes good to you - then it is good.

I'm not a wine snob and would have answered, but I have never mixed, so I didn't have anything useful to say.

That's really interesting, I should give it a try. Actually, I /have/ mixed, but not wine with wine. Usually I add cognac/brandy to red wine, and calvados/applejack to white, the result being something Port-like.

Not all of them all the time, to be fair. But that description definitely matches some of them some of the time. :)

Hello, all Too late I realise that we have been ... called out? and responded in (understandable) anger - an anger I fully share, as I have already posted to that effect - but it may be high time to point to Dale's quiet and highly appropriate post "Periodic courtesy reminder", particularly "4) If you realize someone's intent is to provoke and annoy ..." before too many virtual teeth fly through the newsgroup, digital baseball bats are brandished, etc.

So, this guy has ruffled the fur of many of us, including mine. Let him enjoy it, then, and let's get back to business.
