Just been given a bottle of the 1996 Rauzan-Segla. Opinions? Readiness?

Thanks,

Gordon

I don't think I have tried this. But will offer opinions anyway. :) R-S is a very solid Margaux, as long as you're not looking for modern flash. "96 was not as great in Margaux as it was in northern Medoc, but still a very good vintage. My guess would be it's just entering its drinking window, but no hurry. Hopefully someone will have actually tasted it (I'm just basing on trying '90, '95, '98 R-S, and on trying a boatload of other '96 Margaux).

My last note from Oct. 2007

1996 - plummy nose with a waft of vanilla smooth on palate narrowing at the end a bit and I thought it a tad low on fruit considering the quite significant levels of tannin. Uncertain future
