Recommendations for North Fork, Long Island winery tours?

Jul 03, 2007 3 Replies

A friend and I have a couple of days free in 2 weeks or so and were wondering if anyone had recommendations for winery tours/tastings and lodging in the North Fork of Long Island, NY (or nearby).

We're open to staying at the winery, if available and worth it, or at a hotel in the area.

No limits on the wine varieties, we're out there to explore! Though we do both love a really nice Pinot Grigio or Riesling. :-)

Thanks! John

A great blog with lots to say on the subject.

cheers, e.

Macari made the single best wine I've had from LI ('97 Macari Bergen Road) Paumonok has a great rep, liked the one I tried Lenz is pretty good, and does nice tour. I've enjoyed wines from Old Field Vinteyards (http://

disclaimer, owners are friends, and I've even picked a grape or a thousand.

I don't think PG and Riesling are popularly planted varities in LI. Frisky Oyster in Greenpoint is good for a restaurant.

No lodging recs, as I have stayed with my friends.

Thanks for the info/references guys! I'll post our TNs when we get back. :-) John
