red wine

Hello all,

I am by no means an expert of wine, however I did recently acquire a taste for red wine. I am having a special girl for dinner Friday night and the menu will consist of:

Salad Garlic Toast with Goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes Chicken Parmesean and a side that I haven't decided yet.

What red wine would you recommend. We both like red wine so white is not an option. I was thinking Australian Merlot or Shiraz.

Help would be appreciated!

A nice Chianti Classico or perhaps a Barbera d'Asti would seem to be the logical match for this menu. Careful with the salad dressing though, as lots of vinegar can overpower any wine.

My $0.02.

Only in the movie; in the book, it was Amarone. :)

Hi Jason,

My advice is to pick a wine you already know and like. Don't add to the stress factor.

I don't really know what chicken parmesan is, besides having chicken and cheese in it. But if it corresponds to my imagination personally I'd go for something from the southern Rhone, less jammy (and flabby) then most Aussie juice that doesn't cost a fortune.

A word OT: if that's indeed a real email address you're posting from, you might want to scramble it. Otherwise the spam robots may well inundate you...

cheers and hope you have a great time,

So what WOULD you drink Amarone with? I have a 2000 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico that I bought at a tasting last year.

TIA for any suggestions!

I like Amarone with Osso Bucco but it's just a personal preference. Personally I prefer my Osso Bucco without gremolata because I find that the lemon zest usually isn't very red wine friendly and it tends to give the Amarone a metallic tang.

I assumed the Chicken Parmesan was like veal or eggplant parmesan - chicken cutlets with tomato sauce and cheese. If that's true with the tomato sauce, I'd go for a chianti.
