Rosemount Diamond Label Shiraz 2002

Was visiting some good friends today for a barbeque; one of them decided to open a bottle of this. Absolutely wonderful wine (I'm a big fan of South Australian Shiraz, this is one of the many reasons why) - very robust body, lots of fruit and berry with hints of pepper on the nose, and a magnificent rich finish.

Yeah this particular wine is normally pretty good value, here at least.

Its made in a commercial style, usually with lots of sweet fruit and generally pretty easy drinking.

In about the $AU12-$14 price range I think.

The pinot is good too, though hardly representative of the variety. The merlot is ok. The sangiovese is supposed to be pretty good. The shiraz grenache not bad. The cab sav not too bad.

The rosemount cab sav was the first red wine I ever had that was drinkable. So I will always remember it.

In fact, for the price you should be paying for it, pretty much anything in the Rosemount Diamond Label range is good value.

The chardonnay is usually pretty good too. Very good in fact usually.

There is also an even lesser label, the jigsaw or split label, which is also great value for money.

There are some notes here:

Rosemount make a lot of wines in a lot of different price brackets.

So, Rosemount diamond label, great value, easy drinking, almost always a crowd pleaser, but its hardly going to win too many competitions. I think the diamond label is a great and cheap way to introduce ppl to wine, because its normally pretty safe that it will be easily drinkable.

Indeed, the last Rosemount wine I tried was their Traminer/Riesling blend; very fragrant and tart with a semi-sweet finish. it would make a great "beginner" wine.

Sorry, to be so late in responding but what is Rosemount "Diamond"? Is it ordinary Rosemount wine since the bottles of Rosemount in my local store all seem to have a diamond-shaped label?

I assume that's the case; all of the Rosemount's in my state's stores also have that diamond label. If the OP is discussing something else, I hope he will say so.

I'm not the OP, but my local store has Rosemount in Diamond Label and a few other "labels". Check here (hope the link works)

Thanks, interesting list but, as I said, I've never seen Rosemount labels that were not diamond shaped and, going by my memory, the word "Diamond" is not prominent. I guess I now know what to look for and Rosemount's prices are quite attractive.

One thing I didn't mention...the images of the labels in that list are a little different from the ones that I actually see on the shelves. The ones on the shelves actually say "Diamond Label" on them. Not prominent, but on the lower portion of the diamond, near home plate, if you will.
