San Diego wine tips

In downtown SD try Osteria Panevino, Humphrey's by the Bay, Asterra and Aquarella. In La Jolla try Cuvee, Roppongi and Fresh Seafood Restaurant A couple of miles north is The Bungalow in Corona Del Mar. SD is a great place for fresh fish and seafood. Also a visit to old town will get you some of the best Mexican food anywhere.

Drive northeast out on I 15 to visit some wineries.

There is a place on the beach in Del Mar called Jakes that is great for watching sunsets and getting good eats.

I live an hour North of San Diego, but I'm not familiar enough to offer or comment on specific restaurant suggestions.

I do have a reference to a wine shop from someone who should know. If you get a chance, check out The San Diego Wine Company, at 5282 Eastgate Mall [Phone: (858) 535-1400]. Eastgate Mall is a street name, not a mall, and it's East of La Jolla. The shop was recommended to me by someone who teaches wine appreciation classes.

Hi Mike, Visited some Temecula wineries 4 weeks ago, and I would agree, nothing exceptional and the wines are somewhat expensive - but worth a visit anyway (tasting is always fun). We brought home some "souvenir" bottles from Hart and Ponte.
