Inside the neck. Jon
Are you sure the wine is bad? Does it taste off? Musty, modly? I am assuming it is a red wine. When poured into a glass, does it have a brown color.
Was it stored improperly? Were the bottles stored upside down and you are just getting a sediment buildup around the neck? Who is the maker of the wine? Variety?
Need more info.

One case was upside down, the other wasn't. Who is the maker of the
The first case was Daniel Gehrs syrah. It wasn't upside down. The second case was 1707 which is a cabernet-syrah blend.
