Singed bay leaf

Apr 15, 2016 5 Replies

I'm used to reading wine reviews that are essentially the description of a fruit salad but today I read one that describes one of the flavour notes as "singed bay leaf" (James Molesworth - WS). This must be the limit of pretentiousness!!!

Singed? what does that mean?

Slightly burned around the edges. Graham

Which kind of wine was that said about? north rhone?

2012 Domaine Santa Duc Aux Lieux-Dits, Gigondas Graham

Pretty close, north rhone is more smoked paprika :)
