Tawny port question

Hi all,

I have just cracked a bottle of 1981 vintage Rovalley tawny port and just want to make sure that it is safe to drink at this age since I don't have much experience with port. It looks to be dark in colour, almost brown and smells quite oakey.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards,

Clockmeister.

Rovalley "port"? That's an Australian fortified wine, I believe. It is most likely safe to drink, but whether it is any good is another question. It sounds like being too old, but you should try a glass, imo, before you pour down the drain... Anders

When wine gets too old it doesn't taste as good (or perhaps it doesn't taste good at all). It doesn't turn to poison, and safety is never a concern.

Try it and see how it is.
