I recently tried the Yalumba Y Shiraz and think it has some promise. I liked the Tannins a lot but there was a touch too much cherry cough drop. Any thoughts on it? Is it up there with Paringa and other value Aussie reds?

Yalumba is just being released to our wine stores Saturday. TN in the December vintage catalogs mentions twice "dark plum fruit". This is one of the smells and tastes that I enjoy the most in the Aussie Cabs and Shirazes. I hadn't hi- lited this one for purchase but since you have mentioned it, I just did.

Oops, didn't realized there was a second Yalumba out there. YALUMBA Y SERIES SHIRAZ* LCBO 624494 750 mL bottle
Any idea what the difference might be other than $6?

Went to a tasting held by Jane Ferrari (winemaker) a couple of months ago. I seem to recall her saying that the wine has 5% Viognier content - perhaps this is the difference you like.
That's the (more expensive) Barossa Shiraz, not the Y Shiraz.
