All in all a classic enough Crozes, if a little thin

And I drink all of it I can get! Perhaps because at @10USD it is close enough to the 20+USD product from Jaboulet that is the only other one I can get regularly.

You are right about the warmth, or lack thereof, it is more like a CA tasting room, but they pour from a wide variety. One does miss the personal touch, the "Oooh if you like that one, just a minute I have something here, aaah there she is a 1990 "cuvee better than _____" YOu must taste this wine!

Three weeks to France! alas for a wedding, but wait there is wine at dinner, non?

Shaddup, Mike. :) I just read the post and was about to kill and correct it, again.

Sigh, there really are such days... P-A-U-P-I-E-T-T-E !!! The first was a slip of the tongue, at least I managed to spell it right. Now you see why I'm an infrequent poster on frbv.

I've usually found the co-op Crozes to be a good (though never outstanding) version of the appelation; most of the attraction is that it's usually cheaper than any other Crozes (and offers more character most years than the Jaboulet Jalets bottling or Delas Freres).

Is Op. 40 a sonata or a concerto? I forgot which work you mentioned, but asked her last night re Hoffman. She hadn't heard any new recordings by him , but did say that he plays upon a truly gorgeous instrument (it used to belong to Leonard Rose, her old teacher).

Best,

Dale

Did you get a chance to try (or anyone else) the '98 coop Hermitage? Just stumbled across a bottle in the cellar, must have been a gift from someone. Not planning on opening soon obviously, just wondering.

Yes, it's Rose's Amati, I believe. It is indeed a wonderful instrument. Betsy studied with Rose, eh? Good stuff.

Does it just say Hermitage? Seems to me I remember that they often have 2 bottlings (one is Belle Rives or the like)? I have liked some of their Hermitages- for the price - before. Never going to mistake for JL Chave, but sometimes they're priced closer to a top Crozes. But don't remember tasting a '98.

Well, it was at end of his career, and he might not have been at his best. Her real mentor was Paul Katz of the Cleveland.

best, Dale

Indeed they they offer two versions of Hermitage: "standard" cuvee called "Nobles Rives" and Cuvee Prestige called "Gambert de Loche" (with this name printed on the label below the large Hermitage name).

Hi, thanks for that. Mine just says Hermitage, no mention of rives, nobles or ignobles. Have you had this '98, Jacek?
