TN: '02 Sauzet Bourgogne with bacon 2 ways :)

Betsy made a lobster/corn chowder with smoked bacon last night, along with a spinach salad that also featured bacon. Lobster makes me think white Burgundy, and I opened the 2002 Etienne Sauzet Bourgogne. I think this wine could kick the #$s of 90% of the village Pulignys out there. Producer, producer, producer in Burgundy may be a cliche, but based in fact. Medium-bodied with a floral/spice/butterscotchy nose, this could use a little time for the oak to integrate, but so tasty now I doubt either of my remainign couple get the chance. Sweet bosc and cornice pear fruit, a little zip of lemon zest from the acidity to keep it lively. Nice nutty finish. Ranks with the '96 Leflaive and '00 Matrot as best regional level white Burgundies I've ever had. A-/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
