On our recent foray to Sam's, we returned with a few bottles of ready-to-drink wines, among which was the title wine. With tonight's dinner of takeout Thai food, we opened:
2007 Babich Sauvignon Blanc nose: powerful, perfumed, floral then minerals and grapefruit palate: clean, good acidity, medium body, dryOur first encounter with this year's crop of Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs, and a sequel to the fantastic '06 Babich. This year's version isn't quite so compelling, as it seems to lack the tropical fruit character that made last year's version such a hit. Still, it's a very nice bottle of wine that stands up reasonably well to a yellow Thai curry sauce (though an off-dry Riesling or Chenin Blanc would have been better IMO). At $13.29 a bottle, a good QPR wine, too.
